Sesamoiditis is an inflammatory condition of the sesamoid bones and surrounding tissue. It causes pain and discomfort in the ball of the foot behind the big toe.Sesamoiditis normally progresses over a long period of time as a result of stress on the foot (i.e. from footwear like high heels).However, it can also be a result of sudden trauma.
